Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sports Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
At Sharlston Community School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum, a focus on mental health and well being, alongside extra-curricular opportunities, all have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
What is the Sports Premium?
The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Funding for 2019-20, for schools of our size in 2019-20 is £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year – here at Sharlston School that will mean around £18,500 a year.
Purpose of the funding
Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this. The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
